Shorthanded Panthers Pay the Price Against Vikings

07/12/2018 12:30 AM -

Chicago Heights, Ill. – July 11, 2018 – The Crestwood Panthers showed up to play with only eight players and had to reap the consequences, having to forfeit to the Southland Vikings.

With the Vikings ahead 3-0 through 3 ½ innings, an injury to Colton Rydlewski (Albion College/Schererville, Ind.) reduced the Panthers to just seven players, leaving the team unable to continue.

The only three runs in the game came in the bottom of the third inning, as Panthers starting pitcher Pat Mayo (Spring Hill College/Oak Lawn, Ill.) issued four consecutive walks to the middle of the Vikings lineup.  Mayo ended up walking five in the inning as the Vikings struck for three runs on just one hit.

The forfeit drops the Panthers to a 5-25 record this season.  They’ll look for their sixth win tomorrow as they host the Joliet Generals at Howie Minas Field at 7:00 p.m.  This is the team’s last game before the All-Star break.  You can catch all the action from tomorrow’s game on the Crestwood Panthers Broadcasting Network with Generals play-by-play announcer Sam Oppenheim joining Ryan Zimmerman on the call.
